This is a Brand New Brand

Today is a birthday for Tall Cube. It’s the culmination of an evolution of a small company that did website and graphic design into a full-service marketing and advertising agency that helps drive the growth of our clients’ businesses.

Some of you might know us as Goose Dog Designs, a web design and branding firm based in sometimes sunny San Francisco. Today Goose Dog Designs and Tall Cube merge, bringing the combined years of experience and expertise of our teams together.

With the merger comes a rebranding. You are looking at a spanky new brand!

Since we closed the Goose Dog doors, many of our clients have asked us for the backstory. If you’re interested, read on.

The Dog’s Tale

I founded Goose Dog Designs in 2011 and from our earliest days was intent upon doing it differently. My goal, with every client and for every project, was to provide a superior customer experience from the first conversation to the celebration of a successful launch.

At Goose Dog Designs, our values were simple:

  • Listen, Learn, Respond: It’s your business and your objectives, so it’s more about you and less about us.
  • Passion and Pride: We never settle for anything other than the very best in everything we do.
  • Think Strategically: The most powerful ideas aren’t short-term fixes but part of long-term solutions.
  • Confidence and Courage: We’re innovators and always ready to differentiate your business in new ways.
  • Grow Together: We prize relationships as opportunities to unleash the synergies between us.

Luckily, as my company grew, so did my clients’ companies. I began to realize that in building strategic websites and creating effective marketing collateral for our clients, we were helping to grow their business in a very tangible way. And so we began helping them further to keep up that growth.

Goose Dog Designs began offering services beyond design, such as SEO, online advertising, email marketing campaign development, and web page conversion optimization. Over the years, we built and grew teams of marketing specialists to handle each area of expertise.

Goose Dog survived the growing pains and operations remained smooth. But I began to notice a divide between those clients who came to us for marketing services and those who came looking for help with their website redesign. So I split off and started a second company, Tall Cube, and took my marketing accounts with me.

Over the course of a year, I found that from an operations standpoint, Goose Dog was essentially one moving limb on a much larger animal. Our digital advertising and marketing systems involve all kinds of graphic and web design and development. So today is the day the Goose Dog finally grows into what it was always meant to be.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I named the company after this guy:

His name is Gustav and he goes by Goose. He was hired immediately as Tall Cube’s mascot and was recently promoted to Director of Barketing. ????????

Why Tall Cube?

We get a lot of questions about our unusual company name. Tall Cube is a result of a wild brainstorming session with my creative team. I had a million ideas swirling around my head when I decided to embark upon starting a new company, but there was one concept that stood out. I would think about it when I went to sleep and it was there waiting for me in my head when I would wake up.

It was the phrase math and magic. I was obsessed with this idea that our work is a combination of form and function, that what we do on a day-to-day might be a series of creative endeavors, but that at the heart of it all, guiding and holding the wheel, was the data – the numbers we glean from our research and analytics. We came up with dozens of names but in the end, Tall Cube was the one. I like that it plays with an impossibility, that a cube can’t really be proportionally tall. I loved the symbol of something literally exploding out the top of a box combined with the literal phrase thinking outside the box.

Our logo flirts with this idea of a tall cube, using the hexagonal shape resulting from a skewed perspective. And the fun, bright colors within a layered grid gets back to that partnership of math and magic.

We’ve found our brand to be a great introduction when a relationship sparks with a new client. We are serious about our work, but we don’t take ourselves seriously. We’re bold and confident, but we are tons of fun. I mean we’re a hot pink and purple cube. If you can get down with a hot pink and purple cube, this partnership is going to be wildly successful for us both.

What’s to Come?

Just as we grew out of Goose Dog Designs, we will continue to grow the cube taller and taller. It’s been an incredible journey. From all of us here at Tall Cube, thank you so much for your support over the last seven amazing years. Here’s to many, many more!
